Oranje Vrystaat, Bloemfontein
HERN 142A

Daniel and Hyman were among the earliest Jewish merchants to settle in the Orange Free State republic.
The token was issued in brass nickel to address a shortage of small change in Bloemfontein and is now sought after by collectors of South African exnumina.
Daniel & Hyman tokens are among the most desirable nineteenth-century South African merchant issues and are eagerly sought by collectors of Orange Free State, merchant tokens, and South African exonumia. Their historical significance and limited survival make them an essential addition to any advanced collection.
