This is Gobbolino
He started off being feral, darty and scratchy but pretty soon showed an increasingly softer side
He lives in the wild in the Karoo and every time I go there we reconnect
He breaks my heart because I can't take him home (the city is no place for him) and I worry about him- especially last season when the mice didn't breed as much as they usually do
He is named after a character from a series of audiotapes I listened to as a child
Gobbolino was born as a witch's cat and then proceeded to be a ship's cat, a knight's cat, all other sorts of cats, until he finally achieved what he always wanted, which was to be a kitchen cat in a domestic home, purring in front of a fire
So this is my wish for my Karoo Gobbolino and all the other Gobbolinos out there:
May they all find a good home, some real love and security, and a warm fire
